if you don.t have anything nice to say, don.t say anything at all.
i think i took that phrase far too literally as a child.
i didn.t talk, unless i thought i had something interesting to say.
and while already working with a deflated sense of self-worth, i ended believing i never had anything interesting to say.

at every occasion, i.m ready for the funeral.
i.ve had a lot of people die on me. and that is a selfish way to put it, but it feels that way since the first time i was told someone had passed away.
no fucking fair.
even as a kid, my mom brought me to funerals so i would be used to the shock that comes naturally with going through those sorts of motions and experiences. and it wasn.t random people she didn.t know, because that would have been really fucking strange. she ran a senior center. there aren.t that many professions that rival the death rate my mom saw weekly.

i.ve kept sober. i still find it incredible that everywhere i go, i smell dope. it smells "like an oatmeal bath".

my heart beats like crazy, every time.

in music news, regina spektor is playing toads again on the 20th. opening is the guy who was the guitarist for the moldy peaches. i.m excited.

and saturn is my ruling planet.

i was rudely awoken this morning [not by the pigeons.. i love blur] by someone with a great sound system playing bad music. i think it was dave matthews band. they.ve never appealed to me. i think their fans are a cult, the type that re_uire [hey i just found out my q key no longer works. awesome. especially since the name of my band [which is far from a band.. more like betsy bissell and her guitar and some words slapped together is quarantined past.. the q is needed. obviously.]

fuck. my exclamation point is on the fritz too.

i no longer remember the ways in which i was about to describe le dave matthews band. damn.

when i drive along the coast i.m inundated with the smells. from morningside to west haven, that is one of my favorite drives. sewage and boiled eggs [you see, that is the tide], then the mexican joint with their spices more salt water till the fried dough and motorcycle exhaust.

if you go further you.ll hit new haven and the sights and sound intensify. it has something to do with the lack of water.

i had to go to a 4 hour driving class because i.ve gotten 3 or more driving tickets within 2 years.
one. speeding ticket in 2004, coming back from the modest mouse/wolf parade show with megan
two. parking ticket in new york city with brendan, teague, and darren
three. not stopping completely at a stop sign [during one of my favorite milford-west haven coast drives] earlier this month

it was boring and all the handouts we were made to seem would be handed in were just thrown out at the end of class.

i.ve pretty much stopped smoking. i.ll tell you why someday. it.s not that important.
